Greentext Generator was exactly what it looked like: a machine for churning out shitposts.

You typed what you wanted the story to be about, picked a vibe, hit the button, and the AI spat out a 4chan-style greentext in classic >be me format.

It ran from March 2025 to May 2026. Generated a lot of cursed text. Then got expensive enough to retire.

How it worked

Under the hood, it was a large language model acting as a 4chan text generator:

• You gave it a prompt (scenario, character, unhinged idea, whatever).
• You chose a genre based on real 4chan archetypes (wholesome, cringe, horror, schizo, etc.).
• It generated a story in that style: short lines, green arrows, dumb punchlines.

It wasn't perfect, it wasn't "lore-accurate 4chan," but it was good enough to make you laugh, groan, or question your life choices for opening the site in the first place.

Why it's retired

The site ran on xAI's Grok 4.1 Fast model. In May 2026, xAI retired that model. The replacement (Grok 4.3) cost roughly 5x more per token.

For a free site with no ads, the math stopped working. Rather than add paywalls or compromise the output, I shut it down.

What it did and wouldn't do

The AI would happily go dark, weird, and edgy. That was half the point.

It wouldn't touch the absolute third-rail topics the model refused to go near, but there was still plenty of room for:

• Degenerate humor
• Awkward social horror
• Internet-brain nonsense

Cheap entertainment, generated on demand.
